Scandinavia offers superb touring opportunities, with picturesque forests, dramatic fjords, soaring mountains and an abundance of crystal clear fresh air. In midsummer Scandinavia's far north offers the added attraction of 24-hour daylight. Conversely, in winter drivers must prepare for dark days and icy roads on which snow chains or studded tyres are a necessity.

As you might expect from the home of Volvo, Scandinavia has a strong road safety records similar to the UK.

That's not to say the road's don't have their special hazards, particularly the elk and reindeer that lurk in the forest ready to run out in fornt of unsuspecting motorists. Be particularly careful when driving at dusk or dawn.

Scandinavians tend to be polite, cautious drivers, although in winter the aplomb with which they tackle ice-packed roads in cars equipped with studded tyres has to be seen to be believed.
